3 Skin Irritants to Avoid

Ever wondered what those ingredients are in your bath products that are too hard to pronounce? It’s easy just to ignore them and trust that the regulators know what’s best for you. But it may not be any surprise then to learn that many are in fact skin irritants, and some are even responsible for a skin allergen epidemic. If you have skin allergies or want to learn more about what you put on your skin, here are three ingredients to watch out for in your products.

1) Methylchloroisothiazolinone & Methylisothiazolinone

Originally used in paints and glues, methylchloroisothiazolinone & methylisothiazolinone are two preservatives now commonly found in body washes, liquid soaps, sanitary wipes, moisturizers, sunscreens, and cosmetics that can cause a reaction on the skin.

When these ingredients first started making their way into household products, they were thought of as insignificant allergens. However, they are now seen as responsible for a skin allergen epidemic. In 2013, the American Contact Dermatitis Society dubbed the latter Contact Allergen of the Year.

2) Sodium Laureth Sulfate & Sodium Laurel Sulfate

Sodium Laureth Sulfate & Sodium Laurel Sulfate are ingredients in many body washes and liquid soaps that break up oils and can cause rashes and leave the skin dry.

3) Fragrances

Fragrances often consist of synthetic chemicals created to resemble natural scents, and the artificial ingredients they contain can be skin irritants. Even ones that are ‘unscented’ may use masking agents that are harsh on the skin.

So What Sets Lunamy Skincare Apart?

In a skincare world dominated by watered-down, laboratory-engineered ingredients, our philosophy is different. We start with natural ingredients and we leave them as close to how they are in nature because we believe that is how the body can use them best.

No Artificial Preservatives

Many skincare brands use water in their products as a cheaper filler. However, this also means preservatives are needed to keep bacteria from growing. Lunamy’s skincare is water free, so no preservatives are needed.

No Artificial Fragrances

Many desirable scents, especially florals such as rose or jasmine, require huge quantities of plant material to create a small amount of oil, and that raises costs. While other brands resort to cheaper fragrance oils, Lunamy uses actual essential oils for added therapeutic benefits and that fragrant touch.
